2010 Poetry Competition Winner

poetry prizeThe winner of the Poetry Competition for the verse that will inspire artists for the 2010 Mural Fest has just been announced. Sheffield resident, Cindy Bennett, inspired to take up poetry by the growing arts community in Kentish was the winner for 2009 with her first attempt haiku styled poem titled “Fire & Life” and has again scooped the honor and won the competition for 2010 with her 4 line poem inspired by the theme of “HOME”.

It was agreed to keep the limit of 2 – 4 lines for the Mural Fest 2010 poem, challenging poets to come up with an inspirational and short poem which will ultimately be interpreted by 9 artists in the Mural painting competition in 2010. After much deliberation from the committee, the winner was chosen with unanimous agreement as being a poem that will inspire strong imagery and variety in the mural paintings”.

The poem will be on display at the Mural Park in Sheffield from the start of “The Wilderness Gallery 2009 International Mural Fest” paint-off during Easter (Sunday 12th – Saturday 18th April) when visitors will get the chance to watch mural art in its creation.
