ENTRIES are now open for Sheffield’s Wilderness Gallery 2011 International Mural Fest.
Now in its ninth year, Mural Fest has become the signature annual event for Tasmania’s renowned Town of Murals.
Mural Artists from around the world will once again be vying for the $6000 Judges Choice Award. There is also the People’s Choice Award of $2000 and the Visitors Award of $1000 up for grabs for the mural(s) that inspire the most votes from the general public. Selected finalists will also receive $700.
As in previous Mural Fest paint-off’s, the 2011 International Mural Fest will see nine artist finalists complete a 2100mm high by 4800mm wide mural in 6.5 days. Each artist uses the same poem as the theme or inspiration for their mural.
This year’s poem is inspired by the theme of
“Power of Community”
by TB Tewson
‘In the dawn bright with birdsong,
The people rise to watch the world open.’
“Mural Fest is a unique event and I feel honoured to have contributed whilst working alongside such friendly and inspiring people. I have no doubt the exposure from being a finalist will increase my profile and open further career options. As an artist I have been left in awe of the community spirit and celebration of mural painting in Sheffield.” Finalist 2010 Christian Griffiths said.
Each year sees the event grow from strength to strength, attracting world class artistic quality. Record crowds turned out during the week of the 2010 Wilderness Gallery International Mural Fest. And we expect to continue the trend in 2011.
To be considered as one of the nine finalist, artists must complete a 420mm x 960mm miniature of the mural that they intend to paint and submit their application to the organising Event Team, no later than Friday 3rd December 2010.
The paint-off takes place during Easter Week, commencing on Sunday 24th April and ending on Saturday 30th April 2011.
The 2010 entries currently on display in Mural Park will be taken down prior to the start of the 2011 competition and with the exception of the 2010 winners by Marc Spijkerbosch & Jullian Bale, the paintings are for sale.
Entry forms and competition instructions are available from the Mural Fest web site at www.muralfest.com.au or by contacting Catherine Stark on 6491 2500 or via email to

DAY 5 - Here comes the sun |
|
It was all smiles today as the sun shone bright over mural park. Crowds poured into the park to admire the work with many people on a return visit after seeing the start of the competition at the beginning of the week. The artists only have 2 1/2 days left to complete their murals and quite a few of the artists still have much brush work left to do.
