Sheffield is internationally renowned as Australia’s Town of Murals. Since the completion of the first mural in 1986 more than 40 others have followed. With the backdrop of magnificent Mount Roland, and nestled in rich farmlands, Sheffield is centrally located and on the main touring route to Tasmania’s iconic Cradle Mountain, West Coast, Devonport and the North West Coast, Launceston and Northern Tasmania. State Touring Route statistics indicate that around 184,200 visitors from Tasmania, Australia and overseas pass through Sheffield annually.  The Town of Murals has become a popular stop and earns high praise from visitors attracted by the region’s natural beauty.

Following the success of the mural project locals saw an opportunity for contemporary public artworks to become part of the colorful Town of Murals landscape and Mural Fest, a truly unique and inclusive public art competition, was realized in 2003.

Currently, Sheffield is preparing to host the 2013 International Mural Fest.

Now in its eleventh year, Mural Fest is an exciting and unique community arts event of which Sheffield is very proud.  It is popular with both visitors and locals and has fast gained a reputation within the Tasmanian and Australian art communities as an entertaining, evocative and worthy competition that supports established and new artists alike.

Sheffield is a flourishing tourist town that has enjoyed a vibrant art culture for more than 20 years.

International Mural Fest is a week-long paint-off between nine finalists held each year in the purpose-designed Mural Park, Pioneer Crescent, Sheffield, next to the Kentish Visitor Information Centre.  Along with the estimated 5,000 people who visit Mural Fest during the festival week, the majority of the 184,200 people who visit Sheffield annually also view the artworks as they remain on display for 12 months. The names and business logos of all supporters of the event are also displayed prominently in Mural Park for this period.

Mural Fest is a unique interactive event, with visitors able to talk to working artists and learn more about the techniques, the mural theme and the artists themselves.

To ensure the continued success of the event, your business is invited to be a part of this exciting event through a range of sponsorship packages which offer excellent advertising coverage through television, radio and print media, electronic as well as year-round displays and plaques at Mural Park.
